April 27-28 - Kain Grandparents Visit
Grandma and Grandpa Kain came up this weekend to hang out and get to spend some more time with Ryan. They made it up late Friday evening and even though Ryan was already asleep, we were all excited that they would be here first thing in the morning when the excitement started. Lorin and Jeremy were also looking forward to the Grandparents helping out with Ryan if he had trouble sleeping through the night (fortunately - or maybe unfortunately - Ryan slept good this weekend and nighttime help wasn't needed). Saturday started off with Lorin and Grandma Kain heading to some yard sales. Jeremy and Grandpa stayed at home and cooked breakfast while the ladies were out. They came back with soooo many fun things, they both said it was the best yard sale they had been to in quite some time. After that we headed to Halligan's in Short Pump for some lunch with Regan and Mackenzie (Scott was out of town on an offroading trip). It was nice enough to sit outside but a bit chilly when the breeze blew. Afterwards we spent some time playing in the grass, then Jeremy and Grandpa walked Ryan and Mackenzie to Home Goods. The ladies decided to drive so they could get a head start on the shopping. After all the shopping, we headed back to our house for a cookout. The surprise of the night came when we had a cake for Grandpa's birthday! We couldn't put the real amount of candles on there for fear of setting off the smoke detector, so Regan found some really cool candles that said Happy Birthday! After the long day, Ryan and Mackenzie needed a bath to clean up from all the festivities, so we filled up the Jacuzzi tub for their first bath playtime. They had a great time splashing in the water and sharing toys. We finished the night with a movie (Promised Land - Lorin and Jeremy kept thinking of how Beth and Ash would be proud). On Sunday Lorin and Jeremy headed out to get some yardwork done so Grandma and Grandpa got to spend some time playing with Ryan inside. We even caught Grandpa changing a diaper! After they had played with all the toys in the house, Grandpa took Ryan out for a wagon ride to check on his parents. Ryan was impressed with the work we had done and was tired after the ride. Grandma rocked him to sleep. We all enjoyed quality and one on one time together! We're lucky to have such great family close!

April 16 - Airport Surprise!
While Lorin was away in Minnesota, Jeremy finally made it home from his training class in Washington DC. Jeremy hadn't seen Ryan and Lorin in 9 days and couldn't wait for them to make it home so he surprised them at the airport! The lady at the security gate probably had a few concerns about the guy looking like a stalker and trying to hide, but Jeremy was able to jump out and surprise them at the last moment. Ryan was excited for some much needed time on daddy's shoulders and some tossing around.
April 13-16 - Minnesota
We lost another great man this month, Ryan's Great Grand Father on Lorin's mom's side, Ernie Fulton. Ryan and Lorin traveled with Aunt Lynell from Richmond to Minnesota to honor him and spend time with family. Ryan was excited to meet his other Great Grandmother as well as see another *cold* state!
Grandpa Fulton was a caring, gentle man that Lorin remembers spending summers with at National Forests along the east coast as a child.

April 12 - 1st Trip to Emergency Center
Ryan likes to think he is a surfer in the bathtub and stand up in his small inflatable tub. We’re working on the word sit, he seems to get it, sits down and then stands right back up! After the 5th time Lorin turn to get the towel to get him out and he stood up again, and then slipped….and busted his mouth. Tears from both us called Jeremy who was OF COURSE out of town for work….needless to say, he couldn’t understand either of us…
It looked like a gory movie with blood everywhere, or so it seemed. With a naked baby in hand I tried to get him to suck on something frozen but of course he didn’t want
to. We both calmed down and decided to head to the Kid Med to have him checked out. Jeremy helped call our pediatric on duty as I tried to figure out where Kid Med was with a screaming baby in the back seat, talk about pressure!
By the time we got there he calmed down and enjoyed watching all the other kids in the wait room. I was anxious about the wait time and diagnosis, I wasn’t excited about stitches as we were traveling to Minnesota early the next morning.
The Doctor greeted us and after examining his mouth diagnosed that the skin between his lip and gum was torn and that he would heal in a few days. She cleaned it
and sent us on our way. Ryan must’ve worn himself out because he fell asleep in the car and didn’t even wake when I moved him to his crib.
I definitely think that I was more traumatized then he was. Jeremy is on bath duty for the next few weeks!

April 8
After being stuck in side all day, we had to get out and get fresh air! We threw our blanket down and took a few deep breathes! It was hilarious, Ryan did not like the grass. He put his hand down and then kept hesitating to put them back down. Then when I took his shoes off and stood him in the grass he kept trying to drag his feet into his pants to get them away from the grass. I hope this is just a new experience for him and he'll get used to it!
April 6-7
We definitely have spring fever and were glad to was gorgeous our this weekend to get some fresh air...and yard work done. It amazing how much harder it is to do yard work and how much less time you have to do house work with a kid! We brought Ryan's playpen outside so he could watch us in the yard, it last about 5 minutes before he needed to get out with us! During his nap Jeremy hooked up his swing, we made sure it would hold him by testing it with a dumb bell. So far so good!
He wasn't as dramatic in his excitement as we expected, but I guess we did run him right out after his nap and didn't give him much time to wake up!
Once Grandma Kain came over Ryan wanted to show her his new swing and took it for another ride where we got more smiles!
We keep telling Ryan to get ready for some fresh air because we plan on spending a lot of time outside with him!
Happy Spring!
