July 28- Sensory buckets
I have been wanting to put together a number of sensory buckets for Ryan to explore and finally got around to it this weekend. I had different size rocks in one, cotton puff balls in another and glass rocks in another. He enjoyed picking them up and ‘cleaning’ up by putting them back in the bin more than exploring their texture! I’ll continue to introduce them to him for him to explore.
He has enjoyed exploring the cold feeling of ice cubes. I’m searching all over pinterest for more ideas to expose him to!

July 28- Kain Pool Party
This weekend we were lucky enough to spend some quality time with the Kain’s. Friday Ryan got to share Pizza with Kenzie and his grandparents. You’ll see a celebratory drink of Grandma and Grandpa after surviving 2 nights of watching Kenzie. Now they understand what it takes to keep up with a toddler all day long, it’s exhausting!! The kids seemed to like to sit next to each other and see what the other was eating and share pizza bones! You’ll see a picture below of Scott at the Farmers market on Saturday trying to corral both kids together… as you can see neither of them liked it!
Sunday was a fun day at the Kains in their pool! The kids enjoyed climbing in and out of the pool and sliding down the slide! Grandpa even got in to show the kids how to have fun!! Grandma loved to watch us giggle and have fun and took plenty of pictures! I love the picture of both Jeremy and Grandpa with their back to Ryan in the pool…who’s the lifeguard on duty?

July 27- Redskins Training Camp
The Redskins Training camp is in the museum district of Richmond and sponsored by Bon Secours. There’s been a lot of hype about it so we went to see what all the hype was about.
As we were entering all I kept thinking was, ‘this is like a festival’. Jeremy pointed out they even had cotton candy! We were still on the look out for the chest player who we consistently see at other city festivals!
Ryan was still napping from his afternoon nap but didn’t seem to mind napping in the stroller in a loud crowd.
Although I must say I don’t think I watched much any football, it was really good people watching! Ryan enjoyed his raisins and people watching. We all agreed we should make another appearance…maybe next time we’ll watch some football!

July 27- Nature Boy
After breakfast at the South of the James Farmers Market we went down for an adventure to Pony Pasture on the James River. We didn’t know what we were getting into with a hike with a 14 month old but we were up for the challenge since the weather was nicer and we wanted to be outdoors. After a quick stint in the Ergo on the back Ryan squirmed down to take the hike on his own. We had to teach him to step over the tree roots in the trail rather than falling at each one. Just like his daddy, he needs to learn to pick his feet up when he walks ;)
We came across Half Moon Beach where there were dogs were chasing sticks into the water. After watching contently Ryan decided he wanted to do down the hill for a closer look. He was hilarious, he turned around on his belly like he was going down stairs to make it down a small muddy hill! Fully clothed with shoes on, he walked right into the river. With both of us close by we let him get dirty and play in the shallow river beach and he LOVED it! He definitely had 2 fun parents that day…and a change of clothes in the car!

July 20 & 21
We took it easy this weekend but of course found plenty to keep us busy! It was hot out so we tried to think of indoor things, but then I realize these pictures are all outdoors...just go with it!! Saturday we tried a new place for lunch, Tazikis and Ryan got to see the ducks in the pond out back. He kept wanting to climb in and swim with them...he must've been that hot! We met the Kain's for a fun family dinner at Red Robin where Ryan and Kenzie each got their own balloon. On the way out Lorin even tried her hand at the claw machine and won Kenzie a shark!
It's not a weekend without a trip to Target, Ryan's new favorite thing is to sit on shelves, it took a long time to make it through the store with all the shelves they have there.
Trying to beat the heat with a Geiko sprinkler in the backyard. At first he liked to put his hands in but when he stood we realized the sprinkler was right at his head height!
Here is a cute video of a paci game with Ryan and Jeremy tonight! I love his giggles!

Friday Night Fun
How about that first picture for a multitasking dad! We met at Short Pump mall for dinner and a little walk around. This was the first time Ryan really "got" the escalator and was impressed! He sat and watched people come up and down and kept wanting to walk towards the down side. It was probably one of the cutest things I've seen! We thought a quick dinner in the food court would be nice and cool and then we would let him play on the indoor playground since it's so hot out. I think it was hotter inside the food court than it was out..ugh.. but we did enjoy our pizza and Chic Fila and even made a few friends on the jungle gym. Next up was trying to cool off at the water fountain..with not much luck there we headed out for AC in the car ride home!
Sick Day
Having to be on meds for 24 hours meant that Ryan got to spend another day at home and was lucky enough to have Gma Kain come play! Gma came to help while Lorin was able to get some work done. I think he showed her every toy in the playroom, they shared lots of smile and snuggles throughout the day! He topped off the night with spaghetti which Ryan loved and mad e mess with!
Daycare Pictures
Are we bad parents for not spending $20 on daycare pictures? Instead I took a picture of the picture to share! They are pretty cute, if I must say so myself!
I think the red of the towel is making his hair look more red then it is though!

Water Painting
Ryan was home sick on Tuesday with Pink Eye and a double ear infection while fighting a summer cold. Once the shade hit the backyard we stepped outside for some fresh air and to try some water paint on the deck! He didn't quit get it at first but then got the brush in the water...but then it went straight for the mouth. He reverted to splashing in the water instead! I also had to share his "Einstein Hair" after his bath!
Old McRyan had a Farm
I think Ryan's favorite toy right now is his farm! He loves putting the animals in the silo and barn! He could play with this for a hour if we let him!! We're working on the animal noises but we're still waiting for them to come out!

Sunday 7/14
Jeremy and I wanted to take a walk at the park and play on a playground, Ryan, didn’t seem to want to walk! We’re working on his walking skills but he thought it was too hot out! After checking out the lake we quickly found our way to the playground where he LOVED going down the big boy slide!
We headed home to grill out and swing, one of our favorite things! Ryan got to experience corn on the cob for the first time and loved it!

Saturday July14
It was a double play day Saturday! Ryan and I met Henry and Yoga Katie at the Stony Point Fountains. Ryan sat and ate his raisins while Henry played, I guess without his dad there, he didn’t feel confident enough to run in!
After cooling down and a nap, we headed to Maymont to meet Amy Rae and the animals at the petting zoo. Ryan seemed intrigued by the animals but a little worried by the donkey once he tried to getting a little close! Amy enjoyed jumping in the rain puddles for the brief sprinkles!
We had a triple dinner date at NY Deli where we were pleasantly surprised to see a photo booth! We had our first family photo booth experience, Ryan actually looked at the camera which surprised me! And then we had Jeremy in the back looking like he was photo bombing all of our pictures!

We had an awesome 4th of July weekend in Virginia beach! Thursday we celebrated Grandma and Grandpa Barta’s 44th anniversary with them poolside. They were kind enough to watch Ryan (on their anniversary) so that Jeremy and I could go enjoy fireworks at Chicks Beach! It was the wildest show we’ve ever seen. All of a sudden the show ended without a grand finale, the beach started to clear off and you hear grumblings of people complaining about no grand finale. Since we were in no hurry to leave, we hung around to let traffic flow out. Ten minutes later, there was a grand finale! I’m not sure if they were holding out so just the locales could enjoy it or if that pyromaniac was fired the next day!
Friday Ryan got to enjoy time with Grandma B at her pool while Jeremy and I went for a Jeep ride to OBX. We stopped at Captn Franks to enjoy a hotdog on their new 2nd story deck and then took the ferry back to VA Beach which neither of us had ever done. It was a nice day, we miss being able to take the doors and top off but we don’t miss it as much as we missed our little guy!!
We treated the Grents and Nell to dinner out that night since Lorin was craving Tuna. Grandma was a little disappointed that Ryan took 2 long naps that day but that’s what happens when he wakes up at 5am to see the sunrise on the beach!
Saturday the girls headed to the beach while Ryan and Jeremy caught their morning nap. Once they were up and ready the boys came down with Ryan and lunch! Ryan enjoyed playing in a pool that Aunt Lynell helped dig for him. He started venturing into the water until a wave hit him in the face! He didn’t like that too much but shaped up quickly and loved being in the water with us!
We had a night cap back at the Grent’s pool with pizza poolside.
Ryan felt the need to see the Sunrise again Sunday so we packed up and headed to the Ocean front for an easier walk on the boardwalk. He enjoyed the people watching more down there!
Ryan really enjoyed seeing his family and getting some fresh air and sun!
