Sept. 15, 2012 - Ryan’s fun first day with Grandma and Grandpa K. ..... just the 3 of us!
by Grandma and Grandad Kain
Our day started off with us waving goodbye to MOM and DAD as they went to have their fun day for being married 6 years. I wonder if Mom was tearful when they left knowing she would miss me? I think she knew Grandma and Grandpa would take great care of me and we would get to know each other since we don’t see each other for long times at a time. We do skype sometimes and that helps Grandma and Grandpa see how big I’m growing and all the new things I’m doing.
It’s still not the same as spending quality time with just the 3 of us, Grandma, Grandpa, and me.
First Grandma put a pillow on the floor and a blanket over the pillow and floor and laid me on the pillow so I could kind of be sitting up. I had quite a lot to watch. Uncle Scott introduced me to Regae music from the TV station the week before and Kenzie taught me how to dance to the music. Well, Grandma put the music on and started to dance, I’m not sure if it was Regae or
not, but it was funny. While watching her I started laughing and moving my hands and feet and having a great time. After a while, Grandma got out of breath and had to put this tube in her nose
to breath. She looked funny. We did have to stop the dancing though and so we played with some toys and sand some songs.
Grandpa came back in because he had to leave the room because he was laughing so hard at Grandma’s dancing. He got me and rescued me and took me for a walk. Grandma went up for a little nap, which turned out to be about an hour, which was good because grandpa takes long walks! I slept some of the time while Grandpa took me for a walk and then Grandpa talked and sang to me some. I guess while outside with no one around, Grandpa thought he could sing
as loud as he wanted, because he was funny too.
When we got back home we sat on the swing and listened to the birds and other animals and discussed the problems of the world. We were hoping Mom and Dad were having a good time on their trip.
I then went in and took a little nap and then we went to the grocery store. Grandma buys more groceries than Mom. By the time we got back, I was hungry and a little off my feeding schedule. I hope that doesn’t make Mom not want to leave me at Grandma and Grandpa’s again, because they were really good grandparents to stay with. I can’t wait to go there again or maybe Grandma and Grandpa can come to my house and spend the weekend and we could really have some fun time together again.

September 15 - Anniversary Dinner
We all know Jeremy isn't much for the fancy things in life and since one of Lorin's favorite places to eat is Chick-Fil-A. It worked out well that we celebrated our anniversary a day early, because on Sunday Chick-Fil-A would have been closed.
September 15 - Happy Anniversary
Jeremy and Lorin will celebrate six years of marriage tomorrow, but since Jeremy will be out of town for work tomorrow, we celebrated a day early. Since we had not been able to enjoy many Jeep rides this year we thought it was the perfect time to take the doors and top off and take a scenic drive. Earlier in the week we had spent time watching Travel Channel's Burger Land (
http://hamburgeramerica.com/ha_burgerland.html) and it had us excited to find a diner with a good burger on the way. We tried Riverside Lunch in Charlottesville and Jeremy declared "Finally, something decent in Charlottesville!" We then moved on to the Inn on Afton Moutain to see where Grandparents Kain stayed on their honeymoon many moons ago. There were a few bird watchers up on the peak that were quite enthusiastic about the Bald Eagle flying around (similar to the Double Rainbow video on YouTube). We then moved on to our drive on Skyline Drive and enjoyed a Jeep ride through the beautiful views. Just the relaxing break that we both needed. We finished up the day with a stop at Barboursville Winery. As we were heading out of town to head back to Grandparents Kain to pick Ryan up from his big day with his Grandparents, we saw a Blacksmith in Gordonsville. Since year 6 is supposed to be Iron, we stopped in to see if we could find an anniversary gift. As soon as we walked in we saw a table with "Lucky Horseshoes" and since Jeremy will be heading to Vegas for his training class we decided we'd give a Lucky Horseshoe a try! Here's to a another great year together and hoping that the Horseshoe comes through! See more pictures from the exciting day below!
Once we get some pictures from Grandma and Grandpa we'll post some of Ryan's big day with them!

September 10- Ortho Specialist
First parent worries brought us on a whole new adventure today. We had started to feel Ryan's hip pop from time to time. Ryan's pediatrician could not find anything wrong, but suggested we be safe and head to the Orthopedic Surgeon. We went for our appointment and Ryan was the talk of the waiting room. He, like his mother, loves people and was talking up a storm to everyone in the waiting room. When we made it back to the room the Orthopedic Surgeon couldn't find any issues either and after an x-ray confirmed he didn't see anything to worry about. The popping has faded as well, so hopefully he'll be out there in no time with daddy timing his 40-yard dash on a stopwatch. So happy for the good news!
RJK Jumper
Lorin had been wanting to get Ryan is his personalized RJK jumper all summer but didn't have the chance to when we were at the beach. We figured we should squeeze him into it before it was too late! As you'll see, he didn't like the grass so much!
September 9- NFL Sunday- Week 1
Today was a perfect (almost) fall day! The weather was gorgeous so Jeremy took the TV outside to enjoy the first Sunday of the NFL! We opened the windows to get some fresh air and Ryan got to enjoy watching his dad jump around and yell at the TV and thought it was funny! Lorin got to do her Sunday routine of errands around town while the guys hung out at the house enjoying the festivities. What football day would be complete without hamburger cheese dip and "sugar soup"!
September 8- Kain's
We met Scott, Regan and Mackenzie in Carytown at Don't Look Back, a taco bar turn restaurant. Ryan was mesmerized by the TV and Jeremy had a hard time turning him away since college football was on!
We all traveled down to the G'rents Kain to enjoy homemade pizza and ice cream. There was a lot of "when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie" singing which is what I think made them taste so good! With a slight breeze we enjoyed sitting on the swing on the porch on the swing. Ryan and Kenzie are starting to realize each other which was adorable! Kenzie kept reaching for Ryan and even reached to Ryan's paci and tried to put it in her mouth. Ryan wasn't as pleased with her and may have cried a little bit! He'll learn soon how to play and have fun with her!
Grandma enjoyed playing with both of them on the floor and made them laugh!

September 3- VT Tailgating
The Hokies kicked off their season and Ryan was excited for his first ever tailgate! OK, OK...maybe it wasn't the kind of tailgate that first comes to your mind, but Ryan got to try out some of his Hokie gear, crack open a bottled beverage (even if it was milk), and shout at the top of his lungs! Luckily the Hokies pulled it out with an overtime win, although Ryan was a bit to sleepy to take it all in. Jeremy looks forward to a whole fall of teaching Ryan about Football, taking in the games, and showing him the ropes in Fantasy Football!
