Barta Christmas

Christmas Round 2

Christmas Round 1

Guest post from Grandma Kain:
Dad and I enjoyed spending time with all of you on Christmas Eve with the special treat of getting to stay over at Lorin and Jeremy’s house.  Lorin and Jeremy, you outdid yourselves.  The dinner was delicious and I loved watching the kids with the birthday cake for Baby Jesus.  Ryan added some extra special toppings when he blew out the candle.  They all got the chance to run their fingers through the icing on the cake.  I got to get up in the middle of the night to pat Emily back to sleep.  I enjoyed watching the video of Mackenzie on Christmas morning telling about baby Jesus being born.  SOOO Sweet!      We woke up EARLY (for us) Christmas morning and watched Emmie and Ryan open their gifts from Santa and Mom and Dad.  After a great breakfast, with Scott, Regan, Mackenzie and Joseph, we all opened gifts from each other.  After a little help with cleaning up, we thanked Lorin and Jeremy and went home.  What a special day).  I went home and slept for several hours as I’m not as young as I used to be.    Merry Christmas to all of our loving family who makes life worthwhile.Love,Mom and Dad K.

Christmas Eve

Warning, picture over load!  I think I almost love Christmas Eve more then Christmas!  We enjoyed a day visiting with Jeremy's Grandparents where the cousins played with the nostalgic toy basket and played on the floors filled with memories.  After a quick nap, we headed to Hope for Christmas Eve service.  It is always a production, and this one was no other!  Emily lucked out to see the service after she was called out of the nursery for being inconsolable!   We rushed home to create an ambiance for the Kain family Christmas Eve Dinner.  The cousins loved playing together and we all enjoyed experiencing it through them!

Ryan prepared cookies and carrots and then reminded us that Santa needed cookies!

Baby Jesus' Birthday Cake!

SUgar Free Cake for Jesus!

It was helpful to have Meemaw and Papa switch out waiting in line and playing with the kids today!  After missing our reservation at the Chickahominy house, we found ourselves at Bakers Crust for a nice meal together!  Ryan loved chasing the train around with Meemaw and Emme liked people watching!
What's the definition of tradition?  We joke that if we do it twice, we ALWAYS do it!  Well, we started a tradition this year, meeting Meemaw and Papa at the Yankee candle factory for pictures with Santa!  Emily definitely didn't like him but Ryan warmed up to him after clinging to me at the beginning!
I will admit though, the crying pictures are my favorite!  I'm a sucker and love memories so we got all the imagines!  I think I will make the Yankee Candle Santa are go to, we've *always* had a good experience and I love the green chair!!

The Jefferson

When Jeremy and I chatted about what holiday traditions/memories we wanted to create for our family, the Jefferson Hotel was top of my list.  For some reason it holds a special place to me, maybe it's all of the Markel Christmas parties we've been to or the fun memories of weddings and birthday brunch or the history of the gorgeous hotel.  Something about it is special to me, and it's even more beautiful at Christmas!  I'm so glad to show the kids around and capture these pictures we can compare over the years.

GNO Family/Holiday Style

I love an excuse to get together with the girls, as challenging as it is to coordinate our calendars, let alone our family calendars, we always seen to make it work!!  We were glad to have them at our house this year to break in our new kitchen.  Mrs. Ayscue always goes above and beyond for the kiddos and is so sweet with gifts for them!  We even did a gift exchange for the guys and girls, booze for the guys and girly things for the girls!!  I did feel bad to put Ryan in the corner with the computer but it worked and it's nice to take advantage of his new love for watching tv!!

Everett's Birthday

One of Ryan's favorite places is Kangaroo Jacks, a bounce house.  So he was super excited to celebrate Everett's 3rd birthday.  Emme even got in on the action!

Day of Parades

Even for my love of parades, I never thought I would be able to see 2 parades in 1 day!  In the morning we checked out the parade at MacArthur and at night the Parade of lights on the James River.

Polar Express

The Henrico Theatre was showing the Polar Express for $1, I didn't know if we would make it through the whole movie, but it was worth a try for such cheap day!  They did such a good job, each kid got a golden ticket to board the train, then got to watch a mini polar express train around the Christmas tree before heading into the theatre to see the movie.  Ryan lasted until the last 15 minutes where I had to convince him to stay to see santa!  Snacks definitely helped get us through but we all 3 enjoyed it.  (Emme enjoyed the dark for her morning nap!)  I was thankful there were lots of other chatty kids in the theatre for our first movie experience.  On the way out, they gave us hot chocolate and a special bell.  I got emotional thinking of all the magic of Christmas and how lucky I am to experience it and see it through the eyes on our children, what a special experience.

Hope Jingle Jam

Our church does an awesome children's Christmas show, I think I was more excited to take Ryan to it this year then he was!  They had every holiday character dressed up to take pictures and autographs with and lots of treats and activities.  At one point I found us sitting in the middle of one of the rooms taking it all in, being slightly over stimulated!!  They also did a really cute show/skit about the Christmas story.

Holiday Crafts

I love a good theme and Christmas gives me an excuse to do cute crafts with the kids!  Here's a snapshot into a few that I could catch between cleaning him up and keeping Emme out of everything!

Santa

Tacky Lights

It felt 'right' to bundle up to go see Christmas lights but it was a fairly mild night!  Every house we drove past Ryan would get so excited and cheer "Christmas lights, Christmas lights on my side"  We stopped at our 2 favorite houses which happen to be next to each out and happen to be relatives of each other!  Ryan got to wear his Rudolph nose and was adamant about going to the door to go inside.
