June 30- HOTT
It was a HOTT weekend and we spent a lot of time outside. I swear it wasn’t because I think Ryan looks so cute when his cheeks get rosy and flushed!! Ryan wanted to meet his cousin at the park and heard that there was a festival so I thought I would tag along! Forest Hill Park was having music and vendors so we got there early to stake out our shade under the tree where we enjoyed food truck lunch and PB&J for the kids. Kenzie tried to show Ryan how to Ryan around but he couldn’t keep up with her!
June 29- Saturday out and about
Ryan took in the scenes of the South of the James Farmers market from the best seat in the house, his dad’s shoulders! (I think Jeremy is trying to curve his fear of heights early!!) We tried a new treat this week, a “works bagel” that was delicious, I wish we got a picture of it! It was a bagel from our favorite bagel shop, NY Bagel and cream cheese, tomato and microherbs (we held the capers!) But don’t be fooled, we also shared a donut! Ryan hopped in line with his friend Henry and then enjoyed all there is to enjoy of the goats! (sight and smell!)
After pursuing but not buying anything at the market, we found a shade tree to plop under and let the boys have a snack and play together. Although at this age they don’t interact much, it’s funny to see them liking the same food and toys!
Since the Market was Lorin’s scene, we went to check out Jeremy’s scene, Satterwhites, a small diner on the west side of Short Pump that we went to while Ryan was baking (preggos!). Ryan got to experience a booster seat on a booth seat while Jeremy and Lorin got to experience eating one handed with him sandwiched between them catching him as he wiggled around. Sorry ladies for the PB&J finger prints on the window…
Since we were on that side of town we wanted to try a new microbrewery, Midnight Brewery. Although not as kid friendly as Hardywood we got to share a flight of their beer and say we tried it! (not sure we’ll go back, unless there’s a festival of course!
Lorin has been talking about this Water Table for weeks so we finally gave into her request! Ryan seemed to like it more than the pool but it didn’t keep his interest too long. I do think it was somewhat refreshing though between short walks in the neighborhood and swinging!
We finished out the day with grilling out and enjoying dinner on the deck! Saturdays wear me out…

June 22- Summer Time and the living's easy!
It's officially Summer and we are looking forward to the full moon this weekend! We started the morning with a few unsuccessful yard sales and then met some friends at the South of the James Market where Ryan got to try a little bit of the famous Amish donuts! With all the sugar in his system we headed over to the park to play on the slides and swing. He enjoyed watching the older boys run around! Once we got home we made some fresh home made pizza. While we were busy Ryan decided to help reorganize our tuber ware!!
I'm feeling these may be the last special moments Ryan and I have together while nursing. While Jeremy was home with him for a week at the beginning of June we cut 1 bottle out or the day and by that weekend we cut both bottles out, due to convenience mainly! We were on the run and didn't have time to nurse so when Ryan went back to school on Monday we didn't take any bottles! He didn't seem to need it and was doing fine without it so we went with it. I maintained the morning and night feeding, until he refused me one night at night. It just so happened the 1st time he refused me was his actual due date, coincidence?
I figured it was just because we were some where new, putting him to bed at the Kalkowsky's but then on Saturday we were out and got home late so he didn't nurse again that night. By Sunday I wasn't sure if he would take it or not since he's teething and a minor summer cold. By Monday I kept trying to offer since I selfishly wasn't ready to give up the night feeding. This is our special time, I can talk to him about the day, how special he is and how much I love him. By Tuesday or Wednesday he was back to his night feeding!
But of course, I'm now wondering if I should've gone with it and let him start a new bed time routine. I know he will always need and love me but I've cherished this special time we've spent together!

Father's Day Weekend
We tried to celebrated Jeremy all weekend for his 2nd Father's Day! Friday we enjoyed a get together with Lorin's friends and Ryan got to meet his 2 month old friend Lilly. Although they aren't able to play together yet, he did get to sleep in her crib, so they're bonded through that! :) Saturday we enjoyed a bagel at our joint before we hit the road with the rest of the beach traffic to head to VA Beach for Hanna and Kelsea's birthday party! Ryan got some quality time in the pool with his grandparents for the party got started. (I can't believe I didn't get any pictures of the birthday girl, I need to get better about carrying the camera again!) We had great weather and company for the girls and Ryan loved all the attention his cousins give him!
We decided to take 460 home to avoid traffic which allowed us to swing by Grent Kain's for pizza on the way home! Ryan got to play with Kenzie and push each other (out of) the wagon!
Sunday we headed to meet Grent Kain's for breakfast at Cracker Barrel where Ryan entertained us all! He enjoyed his blueberry pancakes and blueberries..at least we know the way to his heart! We all headed over to Great Grent Kain's to visit with the family. We always love showing up to see who's there! This time Ryan got to play with his closest boy cousin, Kain!
We topped off the weekend with steaks on the grill and a Sunday stroll around the neighborhood.
Ryan is so lucky to have such an involved, attentive, helpful, funny dad! We couldn't tell him enough how much we both love him, but Ryan's laughs tonight as they played together was a great effort. One of my all time favorite sounds in the world is Jeremy making Ryan laugh, he gets the real belly laughs!

12 months
yes, a little late, but here are Ryan's 12 month update...the least pictures we have of a photo shoot since he wouldn't sit still or keep the sticker on! We made it through 12 months with saving the stickers each month but had a casualty on the 12th month.
We even tried to measure him on the chart which turned out unsuccessful!
Age: 12 months
Weight: 24 lbs 4 oz (82%ile)
Length: 29 1/2 inc (66%ile)
HC: 48cm (97%ile) wowzer

June 8-9
This past Saturday Ryan had a special treat of a play date with his cousin Mackenzie! They had fun playing in a fort Uncle Jeremy made for them and following each other around fighting over toys. It's amazing at such a young age how they want to play with the same toy in a room full of other toys! The moms and kids enjoyed a nice stroll in Carytown with a treat of Carytown Cupcakes. After nap time we headed out for a quick bite to eat. Ironically Jeremy came down in a red shirt and blue shirts, just like Ryan, ironic! :) Ryan LOVED sitting outside at Whole Foods as he watched cars and people go by, we kept having to remind him to eat his veggie pizza!
After church on Sunday we headed down to met the rest of the Kain's at the Bacon festival, in all of our festival experience, this was the most crowded! We lucked out on a parking spot but only last 1/2 a block with a stroller and turned around. Too many people in a closed in space with ridiculous lines for BACON...we diverted the other Kain's and met them at the Maymont Nature Center for a free visit. Ryan tensed up as we walked by and aquarium, we're not sure why because he loved the other animals in the petting zoo. I hope this doesn't mean that he doesn't like water...witw!
Kenzie had us over for dinner at her house for BBQ chicken and porch sitting. Ryan and Kenzie got to spend more time "sharing" toys!

June 2- Connor and Nicole Kain get Married!
The latest Kain joined the married side! Connor and Nicole got married this weekend and we all celebrated with them on Sunday with a brunch at the Boars Head Inn in Charlottesville. Ryan enjoyed meeting a number of his cousins and trying to run around and keep up with them. It's always great to see all the Kain's together, if only we could get a whole Kain family picture one day!
June 1- Woodstock
We spent a relaxing weekend in the Shenandoah Valley in Woodstock with the Kain's at the Beasley's. The boys spent the day Friday on a driving experience where they got to drive a Ferrari and Lamborghini. They all made it the course in one piece and didn't come home wanting to buy one so a success all around!
Ryan got to get into the pool for the first time and we think he liked it!! Thanks to the Beasley's, the pool was above 80 which made it more enjoyable for everyone! Ryan really looked up to his cousin Mackenzie and watched her every move!
