Last weekend of Summer
Driving Range
Jeremy has been going to the driving range a few times once the kids go down. I've been thinking it would be fun to take Ryan and see how he hits them. He was so excited the whole way there and couldn't wait to hit the ball with daddy. We marched down to the end of the range as far from people as we could and tried to explain to him the rules of the range. He was lined up next to dad ready to go, but didn't quite the stance down! After a mini lessons of using 2 hands, not chasing the ball after you hit it and not "running the bases", he was ready! Emily stayed safe behind the yellow line!
Maymont
It was too pretty to be inside today so when I gave Ryan the option this morning of what he wanted to do, he said pet animals. (which is ironic because he never pets the animals!!) We headed over to Maymont where Emily enjoyed her nap while we checked out the animals. After a long hike and pushing 2 kids up lots of hills....we plopped down for a picnic in the shade! It's moments like these that make me appreciate being home with them and makes my heart full. Both kids laying around, watching balloons fly in the sky and laughing together. I must say, we have 2 adorable kids!!
This video was of Ryan explaining a balloon he saw fly away in the sky! Balloon Story |

Weekend Fun
With not much planned, we sure did a lot this weekend! We attempted to eat at the new restaurant Season's but left after our menus and drink order took wayyyyy too long. We expected it would only get worse!
So we headed down to Monkey Joe's to meet Kenzie and crew for some rainy day jumping. After nap we risked the rain clouds to head to a blue grass concert at Hardywood where we heard little bluegrass and did enjoy hotdogs from the food truck!

Avocado
Emme tried her 2nd food, avocado and she liked it! She kept grabbing for the spoon and is getting good at opening her mouth for more. It is a little messy and the diapers are even messier!
Don't mind the loud brother in the background!

Adventures with Mom
Ryan at the River
One time a weekend at the River isn't enough so we headed back to Pony Pasture for more rock climbing and splashing! Kenzie clan met us down there and the kids enjoyed riding the rapids!
Memaw Barta Visited!
Memaw came to visit and we kept busy! L&J snuck out once the kids were asleep Friday night for dinner outside on the patio at Portico, one of our favorite Richmond spots! Saturday we introduced Memaw to the SOTJ farmers market where she tried our favorite bagel and donuts. Then Ryan wanted to show him the river at Pony Pasture. Unfortunately we failed as parents to bring his swimsuit and towels so we just had to tease him with climbing on the rocks.
Memaw kept Ryan entertained while we celebrated Caroline's "surprise" 30th Birthday party. (pictures to come!) |

Evening at CMoR
We are trying to enjoy all these summer evenings as long as we can! We met the Kenzie Clan at the CMoR where we got to enjoy a picnic out back all to ourselves. The big kids ran around playing in the "river" while the little kids chilled with the 'rents!
Adventures with Mom
We try to get out of the house every day, if it's nice. I think both the kids and I need it! Here are a few pictures and videos of our adventures together!

Ryan and the water fountain
Something about seeing Ryan be able to drink out to this water fountain by himself made me emotional and realize how big he is getting!
Emily's 1st Food- Oatmeal
Emily has been reverting back to waking twice at night so I thought maybe she needed some more food! We decided to start her with oatmeal. Since it was a nice night and we all ate outside, we thought she would enjoy her meal outside too! She surprisingly didn't hate it, but I'm not sure how much actually went down and how much just got pushed out of her mouth!

Zoo
|
We enjoyed a surprisingly mild August morning at the Zoo with the whole Kain family! The kids loved showing Memaw and Papa around and all their favorite animals. (Ryan's fav are the bats, I think because he asked to read the book Stellaluna over and over again!) It was Jeremy 1st time on the train and he was surprised that the safari ride allowed animals right up to the tram!

Breakfast with the Sober's
We don't do it enough but always enjoy catching up with Great G'rent Sobers at our favorite meeting spot, Cracker Barrel. Ryan loves the other tradition of watching the ducks by the pond in the parking lot!
Redskins vs Patriots
Aunt Nonnie and Uncle Mike came up to catch the Patriots playing the Redskins at training camp in Richmond. It was a muggy morning and only 2 of us (Lynell and Mike) seemed interested in the game! I remembered as we were walking out that I should probably look at the field to see the players so I held the camera up for a picture!! It was cool to see so many fans out on a Monday morning but we all wondered why they weren't working, but they were probably thinking that about us too! We met Jeremy for lunch at Bottoms up before all crashing for a nap!
Keenan's
We showed up at the Keenans's to see their beautiful new deck that Jonathan has been working hard at. (I credit my nagging for him getting it done ;)) The kids loved running around together and for the first time seemed interested in the same things! (1 year age difference) Emily even got to hang with the big kids and keep an eye on them!
