Back to the beach to meet Bryce
Sunday we went back to OBX for Emily and Bryce to meet while they were in town from Memphis. No visit is complete without a stop at Capt'n Franks! It was great catching up with them and having the kids together! It was a windy day, we enjoyed a little time on the ocean but then went over to our favorite spot on the sound to enjoy the sun, shade and bath like water!
I'm still working on getting them to move home...it's hard work!

Bartaclan Pool
You'll notice that only the kids got in the pool, it was that cold! Ryan got to play with his cousins and they all were very comfortable around each other and they watched after him so the adults could relax and catch up! Emily got lots of special smiles and snuggles!
Saturday Morning Fun
One of our favorite things to do Saturday morning is to go to the South of the James Farmers market. We typically don't buy anything except a bagel and a donut but they are both worth the drive and wait!! This week Ryan took us on an adventure down to the pond, I love that he's adventurous and likes the outdoors!
Boys of Dove Hollow
We are lucky to have other young families in our neighborhood and even luckier to have a few other boys Ryan's age. We had Keller, Wyatt and their families over for dinner and to have the boys play together. They surprisingly did well together, not much pushing, some sharing and lots of parallel playing! We look forward to seeing these boys grow up together. What's even better is that Wyatt is also recently a big brother and Keller will be a big brother in July so we'll have another line of kids to play together!
2 year and 3 month Check ups
I conquered Ryan's 2 year check up and Emily's 3 month check up this week, at the same time, what was I thinking! It all started with Ryan not wanting to be weighed and the poor nurse having to hold him and then weigh herself! Next up was measuring his height, that didn't go well either so we had to show him how to do it with Emily first! Luckily Ryan didn't get shots but poor Emily got 3, and she wasn't happy about it. I rewarded all of us after the appointment with a visit to the park, Ryan got to run around and Emily got to be close to me in the Ergo, her favorite place!
Stats:
Ryan:

24 inches, and that is at the 58th percentile for height.
head circumference of 15.748 inches, and that is at the 36th percentile for head circumference.

Headed Home
Monday morning we checked out of the house and headed to the sound for 1 last swim and to tried Ryan out before our ride home. We went to the same spot we did Sunday but found it much colder, but we still enjoyed it! After rinsing off we continued our tour of local parks and found some good climbing trees. We still had some time to waste before nap time in the car on the ride home. We stumbled on a beach public access and through we would go for a quick walk. The waves were much bigger then the sound and we all got a little wet even though we weren't dressed for it! But it was worth it to see the pure joy on his face!
2 and 1 day old
The birthday celebration continued and the tour of the parks on the Outer Banks continues! After some morning snuggles, we all ventured out for bagels and checking out the local parks! After nap, Gma and Gpa Kain came for a special visit. We packed up and headed down to the sound for the kids to play in the water.
We found the perfect spot, under a shade tree with the warm water of the sound. Once again, both kids loved the water! It was perfect for them, no waves and they would waddle around with their floaties on. It was nice to have the grandparents extra hands around to help with the kids and allowed us to relax a little. I realized after we left the beach that we didn't even let Emily put her feet in the water or sand...#mustbeasecondkid.
We all debated if we should venture to a restaurant for dinner with 4 kids but we decided we should and enjoyed a good meal at Lucky 12.

Ryan turns 2
holy cow..where does time go! We surprised Ryan with balloon's in this bed and singing happy birthday to him! (he loved it!) We treated him to a sweet treat for breakfast of Dunkin Donuts where he got a special call from his grandparent Kain's to sing him Happy Birthday! Next we headed over to Manteo where we stumbled upon on craft show/market and playground on the water. After a nice meal outside we headed over for icecream before heading home for naps. We woke Ryan up from his nap with more balloons with Kenzie (they both loved it!)
Next up was a trip to one of Uncle Scott's friend's house to get in the pool for an afternoon swim. We were shocked at his excitement and love for the pool.
After a walk down to the sound we headed to a local taco joint for dinner.
We decided not to do a big cake/dessert since he usually spits it out, but I can appreciate that and know he got plenty of enjoyment out of the day!

2nd Birthday Eve
For Ryan's 2nd Birthday this year, we wanted to spend quality time together as a family so we headed down to Outer Banks, NC to celebrate!
On Friday we woke up early, thinking Ryan would sleep in the car on the way down, but he didn't! Our first stop was naturally, Capt'n Franks, a hotdog joint that Jeremy and I have always enjoyed. We look at it totally different this year and for the 1st time appreciate the park they have out back!
After an early lunch we headed to see Kenzie so we could catch a nap at their house. They had spent the week ocean front and she enjoyed showing us around and introducing him to the ocean. I think the excitement was too much for him because he only took a quick nap!
Emily loved spending time in the baby tent and taking in the fresh ocean breeze.
Before Ryan fully melt down, we headed to dinner at the Nags Head pier and enjoyed music from local artist on the new pier extension. Ryan loved listening to the guitar that he's been learning to play at home with dad. Emily slept through it all! To top it off we wanted to treat Ryan to ice cream but he could care less even after many attempts! He did however want to run back to the beach which meant crossing the busy road!!
This is Ryan's reaction to the beach for the first time this year:

Do they look alike?
I was looking through pictures of Ryan the other day to see if Emily looked like him and had to reenact this picture of him I took for his 3 month shoot!
A few observations:
-He's a little chubbier than her!!
-The chub must've helped him sit up better than her!!
-She does smile, but not as big as him!

Sleep Shots
Every night before we go to bed, we check on Ryan, collect his paci's and place them close so he can find them and cover him up with blankets for the night.
Every night I oogle at how adorable he is and always want to capture it. I need to remember to keep the camera up stairs. I also had to throw one in of Em, I have a lot of her sleeping since that's what she does most of the time!

Saturday 5/17
We had a busy Saturday, while the girls were out at yard sales, the boys held down the fort and Ryan taught Jeremy how to play the guitar!
We had to get out to enjoy the gorgeous morning so when we asked Ryan what he wanted to do and he said aminals and paurk, we knew we could hit the trifecta of park, animals and feeding the ducks at Crump Manor!

After nap we made the trek to RiverRock where we really really trekked from our parking spot to Brown's Island. Ryan enjoyed people watching, climbing, water sports and dog jumping!
After we realized we would be there all night waiting on food, we headed to Olio's, a place we've been meaning to try for a while down in the fan.
We were all pooped after a long day and slept well!

Friday 5/16
Jeremy got off early so we could check out Homearama, a delayed Mother's day treat! Ryan surprisingly did GREAT through all 8 houses and enjoyed climbing on ladders and checking out showers! He did add some 'decoration' to one house as he lost his balloon in the rafters! We got a few ideas for a some projects at our house and then headed out for pizza dinner enjoyed by all.

Pool Fun
Kenzie blew her pool up for Ryan to come over and play with her. The kids enjoyed splashing and letting the water out of the pool as well as a cameo from a worm!
Mother's day of 2
My 3 really treated me extra special for mother's day. We headed to church where we got some special smiles from Emily during the service and then Ryan gave me a flower. It wasn't just the flower that was special, but the excitement he had when giving it to me!
After playing on the playground at church we headed to brunch at the Urban Farmhouse where we scored a table outside, in the shade! After heading home for a nap for Ryan and a pedicure for Lorin, we ventured back out to Maymont to check out the animals. One of my favorite things is the way Ryan says ANimals. Another favorite word of his is 'park', he says it every time we pass one! So we stopped at Mary Munford for a quick play session before meeting Kenzie and clan at Music in the parks. We a nice picnic while listening to Talking Heads tribute band.
All in all it was a great day, I'm so lucky to be mom to these wonderful kids and so thankful to be with them all the time now!

Saturday Mother's Day
I was glad to be able to share my mother's day tradition with Emily this year. Ever since I was a baby I've been going to mother's day brunch with my mom and her Beta Sigma Phi sorority friends. Each year they chose a different location and each year it's a little different but always great to see the women that my mom has been friends with for over 30 years. Kelsea kept Ryan occupied while gma B put Emily to sleep!
We headed back to Richmond where we met Jeremy at Short Pump to ride the train, a special treat for Ryan for being so good in the car all day. He always talks about the train and wants to follow it around when we are there. Once we buy our tickets, we head over to catch a ride and all of a sudden he doesn't want to ride! So instead we head up to the food court for dinner!

Zoo Day
We got to meet Kenzie and family at the zoo today! We were still slightly out numbered by kids and Scott's arm, but we all survived! Ryan got to ride his first zoo train and LOVED it! I was surprised he sat the entire time while the moms fed the babies!
Sunday Funday
It was gorgeous Sunday so we took full advantage of the weather and spent the majority of the day outside. (now that I think about it, we should've napped outside!) We started off like most other days, at the park! Ryan now spots them from miles away and calls them out all the time! Emily gave us good smiles so I think she liked it too!
We met Grent Kain's at Arts in the Park where they provided us a shady spot and blankets so we could picnic under the trees! Ryan was our entertainment for the day and enjoyed spending time with memaw and papa and Emily almost napped through it all! After nap we relaxed in the backyard again before dinner on the patio!

Memaw is in town!
While Jeremy was out of town last week Memaw Barta came to be another set of hands and play!! We had a great time showing her the children's museum and park and playing outside!
