August 24-25 Carova
Lynell and Mike invited us to spend time with them at their beach rental in Carova so we jumped on it, who wouldn’t!! Grent Barta’s offered to watch Ryan for us for a kid free night of beach relaxing, so we took them up on it, who wouldn’t!! If you haven't been to Carova, you should check it out! It’s a 4x4 beach that you have to drive on the sand to get to your house. We were lucky enough to have an ocean front home where we could people watch from the deck and watch the traffic go by the house in front of us! It was pretty windy both Saturday and Sunday, great weather for a kite (which Uncle Mike flew) not so good for beach sitting! We enjoyed the deck for a while and then ventured to the beach where I don’t think I got out of my chair for a few hours…even had food and drinks delivered to me from the house, this is the life!
Staying with 2 chefs, the food was excellent. After a meal of lasagna we challenged each other to a game of Mexican train.
It’s funny how even when you can sleep in, your body still wakes up at 6am! But it’s ok when you’re waking up to the sound on waves crashing and your windows open to the beach air!
Ryan and Grent Barta’s joined us for lunch and then we took Ryan down to the beach to run his energy out. There was a little pool of water left over from high tide that was perfect for him to waddle in and run through on the boggy board.
It was an awesome getaway with a great combination of adult/alone time and Ryan time! We’re lucky that he conked out for 3 hours on the ride home!

August 17-18- Rainy Weekend
This was our first and last "free" weekend in a while so we did lots of family fun and things we like to do together...like playing and lounging at the house! Naps both days for the parents is what I consider a successful weekend!
Lorin started Saturday with a few successful yard sales and then swung by to pick the boys up for breakfast at the South of the James farmers market where we met Regan and Kenzie. After the kids waited patiently for the parents to get bagels Jeremy rewarded them with tandem rocking fun that they both thought was hilarious. The 2 moms watching weren't so keen on the idea until we saw the smiles on their faces!
After a nap in the car we headed to meal #2 of the day at the Urban Farm House where we were able to sit outside and enjoy tourist watching, Segway tours and Ryan trying to run onto the cobblestone road!
After naps all around we met Kenzie and Regan again for burgers at Galazy Diner in Carytown. You'll see Kenzie and Ryan's lemon face. Unfortunately I didn't get the camera out in time to get Ryan's but I got the give me water now after math!
Sunday we headed to Grent Kains for Rainy Sunday fun. Kenzie enjoyed pushing Ryan around on the cart but didn't like being pushed as much! Ryan enjoyed hearing stories of Grents recent trip to Myrtle Beach and loves his new toys and clothes! He doesn't like the UNC paci's as much. I think it hurt his dads feelings a little but he's trying to convince himself that Ryan's just a paci snob.

We finished the weekend with some playroom fun including, playing in the ball pit, building a fort, slam dunking and playing with the farm

Picnic at the Park
Jeremy and Ryan met me at Deep Run park after work one night this week for a picnic..Ryan must've heard that the would be running all around and took a nap once Jeremy picked him up...so we ate our takeout wings on the front of the Jeep while he slept and we watched people run by, talk about motivating! Once Ryan woke up he was ready for food, people watching and fun!

Chiles Peach Orchard
I think we had a glimpse of fall this Sunday, I almost had to pull out a long sleeve shirt. We packed Ryan up for a nap ride as we drove to Crozet with the Keenan’s to meet the Mannix’ at Chiles Peach Orchard. If you haven’t gone, I recommend it. It’s not as picturesque as Carter Mountain but a good day trip! We enjoyed a peach donut as we corralled the kids and caught up with adult talk and orchard trivia and then piled the kids into wagons to hit the orchard. They directed us where to go and as soon as we turned down the aisle (turn right to win) we all looked at each other for advice on what made a good peach???
There are many more peaches per tree than apples per tree. We could’ve picked a bushel off the first tree in the row. Instead we marched through the dropped routed peaches to the middle of the aisle where we each picked a few, took some pictures and called it success! (the success part was keeping 3 kids under 3 entertained and somewhat happy!)
To relax from the strenuous peach picking we enjoyed a cup of homemade peach ice cream.
After all the kids twisted our arms, we obliged to lunch at Blue Mountain brewery full of fleets/flights of beer and milk. It was a perfect day for lunch outside in the mountains and plenty of people watching to keep the kids interested. There was a friendly corn hole competition to wear everyone out for the car ride home.
The theme of the weekend was naps in the car, I just realized that Ryan took all 4 of his naps driving around in the car. Sorry buddy, we’re parents on the go I guess!

As I was getting ready to post about this weekend, I realized I have no pictures from Saturday. what.in.the.world?!?!?
Snapshot of our day: Early morning yard sales where I scored a ton of fall/winter clothes for Ryan. Then we stopped by Deep Run park where the jungle gym was just Ryan’s size and we all agreed we would be back again.
After a nap in the car we headed to celebrate Ashton Kouns turning one where Ryan watched all the bigger kids jump in the jump house. After another nap in the car we headed to the Pense’s for a pool party and what turned out to be Markel Farewell party for many! J
Since there are no pictures, just imagine lots of smiles from Ryan which in turn always makes us smile.
One accomplishment from the weekend is that Ryan went to bed both nights with just a cup of milk. We’ve decided to start weaning and so far he seems fine with it…us not so much! Jeremy isn’t ready for more bed time responsibility as I’m not as “needed” any more! And I’m not ready to not have our special bonding time where we stare into each others eyes! {tear}
